The Mustangs hosted the Waller Bulldogs this past Friday and left the field with another win, clinching a spot in the playoffs and bringing their overall record to 7-0 on a night that was less than hospitable.
The Mustang’s offense started fast with Preston Deming scoring on a 50 yard run. Deming would score one more touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second quarter to tie up the game at 14. He would finish the night with 113 yard on 17 carries. Later in the second quarter, Bryce Williamson would score on an 11 yard scamper to put the Mustangs ahead for good. Williamson finished the night at the Mustang’s leading rusher with 134 yards on 19 carries. On the second drive of the 3rd quarter, John Matocha connected with Konner Cooper for a 20 yard touchdown. Matocha would finish the night with 81 yards passing with one touchdown to go with his 41 yards rushing and one touchdown on a 21 yard scamper. Deming would finish the scoring for the night with another 1 yard plunge into the Endzone.
On Defense, the Mustangs gave up two early scores to Waller, but would shut out the Bulldogs for the rest of the game. Rusty Bertrand, Noah Bryson and Jared Soyring lead the Mustangs with 13, 9 and 8 tackle. The defense held the Bulldogs passing attack to only 145 passing yards. Late in the game, with the Bulldogs threatening to score, Brady Huckfelt intercepted a pass from the Bulldogs quarterback to help close out the game.
The Mustangs travel to Tomball next Friday to take on the the Tomball Cougars at Tomball ISD Stadium. Kickoff will be at 7:30 PM.
