Game Recap

It was a thriller Monday night at Willow Wood Junior High, as the Mustangs fell to the Wildcats 25-20. After falling behind 12-0, the Mustangs made some quick adjustments and quickly went back to work throwing the ball. Cale Hellums led the offense as he threw it over 40 times, completing nearly 90 percent of his passes. Hellums connected with wideout Brock Dalton on a 4th down conversion, and Dalton went 60 yards to score and cut the lead to 12-6. After giving up an early score in the 3rd quarter, Hellums would again find Dalton in the end zone to cut the lead to 19-13. Down 25-13 with 4:45 to go, Hellums and the Mustangs weren’t going to back down. On the first play of the drive, Hellums found running back Tye Copeland on a pass, that Copeland then took 60 yards to get the Mustangs back within 1 touchdown at 25-20. Unfortunately, the Mustangs would be unable to score again, and fell to Willow Wood 25-20. Hellums threw for over 350 yards and 3 scores, behind the offensive line who had a great game. Dalton led the wide receivers with over 10 catches and over 130 yards receiving to go along with his 2 scores. Defensively, corner back Carter Staggs had an interception, and the defense got great defensive line play from Ty Burroughs and Waylon Snead. The Mustangs are back on the road next week against Montgomery Purple.
